Choosing a new handbag is not just about style but also what’s practical and we have some tips on what to consider when shopping for a new bag.

Irrelevant of what you spend on a handbag you want to make sure it’s worth the money you’re paying so check the material, seams, zips and fastenings. If they feel a bit weak then it’s likely that your bag isn’t going to last once you start using it regularly.

Think about what you’re going to use your bag for and ensure that you can fit everything you need into it. If it’s a day/work bag and you’re going to be around lots of people, such as using public transport or shopping, consider how secure your belongings will be. Choose one with a zip or top fastener to avoid losing things from inside or having them stolen.

Tote bags, crossbody bags and backpacks are great for work and whilst the classic black, brown or tans are versatile and will go with almost every outfit, other colours such as bold reds, pinks, greens and blues will add extra style points.

Small bags are perfect for nights out and parties, whilst a crossbody bag is great for travelling or when you need your hands free. For more dressy events such as weddings, a small clutch bag is all you need.

Decide whether you prefer to carry your bag on your shoulder or on the crook of your arm and consider the length of the handles. Some bags have the option of both handles and a longer strap so make a great choice if you carry your bag in different ways depending on what you are doing.

Think about how much you’ll use your handbag and consider the cost…..if you tend to use the same bag every day and want to invest in a designer bag then the overall cost can work out less than if you change your bag a lot and buy two or three a year depending on what’s in fashion and on trend at the time.
